Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is on February 10 2024, celebrates the year of the Wood Dragon and coincides with the start of the new lunar year. The Chinese community in Valencia is strong and so family gatherings are popular at this highly important time of year. Many dress bright and cheerfully according to tradition and lanterns are hung.
Events a week earlier include diverse activities held throughout the day from 11 am on the stage at Plaza de Ajuntamiento as well as a traditional parade commencing around 6 pm from Pelayo Street in Chinatown to Plaza del Ayuntamiento via C/ de Xàtiva and Av. del Marqués de Sotelo. While the impressive dances of dragons and lions symbolise strength and prosperity, colourful costumes, music and traditional floats will also be in abundance.
Further activities take place at various locations before and after the big event.
