Getting Around

PARKING IN VALENCIA

Light green coloured logo image

The freedom and flexibility that comes with owning a car in Valencia can cause expat residents some discomfort when it comes to parking their vehicle.

The simplest solution is to book a space in one of the many underground garages. Some are tight and dark, others are modern, bright and more spacious. Payment of a hundred euros and more per month should be calculated.

Street Parking

Leaving a car on the street can be far less convenient and possibly less secure. A variety of markings indicate the circumstances under which parking is possible. No markings or spaces marked with white lines are free of charge and without restrictions. It is not unusual for someone on the street to indicate the free space and expect a minor reward for their service.

Parking regulations are defined under the Ordenanza para la Regulación de Aparcamientos or ORA. Blue markings denote payment required and limited time of stay. Currently the hors are generally 9 am until 2 pm and 4 pm until 8 pm. Payment can be made at a meter with cash or card or on an app noting the registration plate on the vehicle. Outside of these hours parking is free.

Beware that limited access can strictly controlled in an APR, Area de Prioridad Residencial. Orange zones are for residents and visitors while areas marked green are solely for residents. A permit and payment for the privilege are required.

Should you receive a penalty ticket issued for unlawful parking, the summons will  normally offer discounts of up to 50% for a quick payment. It should also be noted that nudging the car in front or behind when parking is perfectly acceptable. Cars thus seldom remain in pristine condition for long.
