Valencia is one of seven holy cities of the world alongside Santiago de Compostela, Camaleño, Urda, Caravaca de la Cruz, Rome and Jerusalem. The year 2025 sees the celebration of Jubilee Holy Year, which will certainly attract many pilgrims to the city.

Repeated every five years, this third Jubilee Year of the Holy Chalice begins in earnest on the last Thursday of October when pilgrims may obtain plenary indulgence in the Cathedral.

The Holy Chalice kept in the chapel of Valencia cathedral indicates that it dates to the right period to be the vessel commonly known as the Holy Grail used by Jesus Christ at the Last Supper and is recognised by Rome.

A lengthy journey took it from Jerusalem to Rome and later to Huesca, Aragon and Zaragoza before arriving in Valencia in 1424. It has been housed in it’s current location, the old Chapter Hall, since 1916.
