Prehistory & Ethnology Museums IN VALENCIA

Museum exterior

One location, two related themes. Both the Prehistoric History Museum and the Museum of Ethnology are focussed on aspects of how we arrived to present day Valencia.

The Museo de Prehistoria de Valencia traces an 8,000 year period of human presence in Valencia and the greater Community. One of the most complete and prestigious of its kind in Spain, exhibits range from pre-history to mediaeval times and displays include some outstanding items.

The Museo Valenciano de Etnología, in short, L’ETNO,  reflects on cultural traits and promotes research, documentation and exhibitions related to traditional, popular and more recent local Valencian culture, customs and society.

Interestingly, one exhibition has been named “It’s not easy being Valencian”!

HIKING IN VALENCIA

Hiking and trekking in the Valencia region is initially a matter of transport. Areas of interest for hiking are some 60 kilometres and more away from the city. They include Calles, Chelva, Navajas, Xativa, Chulilla and Montanejo.

WALKING IN VALENCIA

Walking in Valencia reveals a compact city centre that is pleasing on the eye, with architecture from many periods. The expansive beach invites with its smooth sand and distant horizon. The Turia offers greenery, blossoms and shade on hot summer days.

A Brief History

A story with repeated periods of flourish and decline intersperses the history of Valencia. Roman soldiers were prevalent in Europe for several centuries before and after the birth of Christ. Just over a hundred years BC they settled in the area of today’s old city.
