SOCCER IN VALENCIA

Football stadium

Spain is as passionate about football as any other country and, as anyone who follows the sport will know, many skilled and famous players originate from here. Some of those skilled footballers also belong to the local club.

The Valencia Club de Fútbol or Valencia CF boast a long history of soccer, dating back to 1919 and has had a number of successes during those hundred years and more. The highest of the Spanish leagues is La Liga and that is where Valencia’s talented men’s team mostly belong. The women’s team is also highly active, playing regular home and away games.

Home games of the football squad, sometimes referred to as the “bats” are played in their Mestalla stadium, which has a capacity of almost 50,000 fans. Following a period highlighting their success, a new, bigger stadium was commenced in 2007. Unfortunately, due to financial circumstances, it has not been completed.

There is apparently hope that the looming bid for Spain to host World Cup in 2023 will trigger completion of the massive concrete carcass waiting patiently in Benicalap.

Going Out in Valencia.

Going out to eat a delicious meal in a restaurant, have a relaxing drink with friends in a tapas bar or partying till very late are all great experiences. Unique to Valencia and the region, many restaurants offer almuerzo. Loosely translated to lunch, this inexpensive late morning meal is served with a drink and coffee.
