GETTING AROUND IN VALENCIA
Getting around in Valencia is easy. Whether on foot, by bike, bus, tram or subway, the city is easy to navigate.
A maze of winding, narrow streets does its best to challenge orientational skills of most newcomers. Especially in Carmen, the old central district of Valencia. Many areas are pedestrianised while others permit entry of residential and delivery vehicles. Walking is a great way to get around the city centre.
Concentric development created many interesting central districts. Walking here can take a mere few minutes. Calculate around an hour from downtown to the beach on foot at a casual pace.

The Velenbisi system has created stands of varying sizes all across the city including the beach area. Their online platform and app indicate real time availability of bicycles as well as free stands.
Taxis and apps
Hailing a taxi on the street is easy and is practiced by locals. Taxi ranks are visible throughout the city centre. Fares are extremely reasonable for short journeys. A ride between the airport and downtown amounts to approximately €15 to € 20, depending on traffic and time of day.
PideTaxi, Cabify and MyTaxi apps are available in the Spanish language. As of 2019, Uber is also available in Valencia and in English.
Public transport
The bus, tram and subway networks reach everywhere. They are easy to use, offer a frequent service and are highly reliable. Maps and timetables take a little getting used to though. Tickets are inexpensive and fares can be reduced even further by pre-charging travel cards. Over 60’s travel by bus for free with a dedicated “gold” subscription card.
The subway to the airport will currently set you back € 3,90 and take approximately twenty minutes.
