MuVIM IN VALENCIA

Art venue exterior

The Valencia Museum of the Enlightenment and Modernity appears to be merely a concrete bunker with a little glass but should not be underestimated in its promotion of civic interaction and reflection on the problems and features of today’s society.

MuVIM honours the capacity to change the world and is devoted to preserving and spreading the ideas which have made the modern world possible. Because ideas also have the power to change our lives.

Permanent exhibitions include The Adventure of Thought, which surprises with how it applies intellectual, sensorial and emotional experiences to explain the way in which western society has evolved from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The Museo Valenciano de la Ilustración y la Modernidad is devoted to preserving and promoting intangible heritage. Ideas are extremely powerful, given their great capacity to move people to act or react against situations they consider intolerable. As temporary displays also reveal.

EXHIBITIONS IN VALENCIA

Magnificent, wondrous, appealing, challenging, ridiculous and moving are just some of the expletives uttered at exhibitions in Valencia. Highly talented and famous local artists are shown regularly as well as some of the world’s greatest.

STREET ART IN VALENCIA

The street art scene in this Mediterranean city is alive and thriving. Tiny, hardly noticeable, scenes vie for attention as passionately as many vast, metre-high murals. Many pieces appear harmonious, others make a more aggressive statement.

A Brief History

A story with repeated periods of flourish and decline intersperses the history of Valencia. Roman soldiers were prevalent in Europe for several centuries before and after the birth of Christ. Just over a hundred years BC they settled in the area of today’s old city.
