POSTAL SERVICE IN VALENCIA

As elsewhere, Spanish delivery services reach back to Roman origins. Whilst the national postal infrastructure has been deregulated, the largest company people have long turned to for most of their postal requirements is called Correos. The company that has ben run by the state since the very early eighteenth century holds many locations across Valencia.

Package delivery is of course available from several alternative companies that offer their services to business and household addressees. These include more big players DHL, UPS, GLS, FedEx and other local companies.

Correos offers a useful service for those who move to a new home within Spain or relocate abroad. The mail forwarding option can be booked for up to six months at a time.

Stamps are known as sellos. Amateur philatelists or anyone who enjoys writing and sending letters and packages with special edition stamps, sellos especiales, have a choice. Ask for alternatives at the counter. Since early 2024, it is even possible to order customised stamps, sellos personalizados.

Referred to as Palacio de las Comunicaciones, the former central post office on Plaza del Ayuntamiento has been converted to a public space. Stunningly beautiful, hundred year old architecture and impressive glass and marble interior design elements are a sight to behold.

In alignment with a Spanish way of doing things, deliveries can be hit and miss from time to time. They are normally made to the apartment door and identification will be asked for. The Spanish use their NIF, Número de Identificación Fiscal for literally everything. Feel free to quote your NIE, Número de Identificación de Extranjero or any other id number.
