STREET ART IN VALENCIA

© Amazing Capitals / DeiaGreg

Street art in Valencia is phenomenal. It is intense, colourful and full of surprises. Few cities reveal such a distinguished graffiti display. Amateurish works mix well with those that reveal the highest professionalism. Traditional graphic writing and political or social campaigns compete amongst complex pieces of art that inspire pure wonder.

The street art scene in this Mediterranean city is alive and thriving. Tiny, hardly noticeable, scenes vie for attention as passionately as many vast, metre-high murals. Many pieces appear harmonious, others make a more aggressive statement.

World leading pieces

Works of art can be hidden in small streets of the city centre or brazenly plastered high for all to see. Enormous murals can be found on deserted factory buildings too. Some of the best street artists in the world have left their mark here. Discover one famous name on a wall at Plaza Tossal, for instance.

Like this creative form or not, it is very much a powerful piece of the mosaic of Valencia’s urban flavour. Colourful and meaningful displays form part of its fabric. Not all of the art here to stay. Time is of the essence because favourite pieces can be replaced seemingly overnight.

Artists are challenging each other constantly to create the finest pieces. The “Are you Dead?” campaign is one noteworthy movement. These words have been stencilled onto the facades of abandoned buildings for years. An upsurge of investment has happened more recently. That has led to many such properties being renovated. So possibly a job done well done!
